Grad Dip Psychotherapy (JNI)
Kathleen is a very experienced psychotherapist in providing therapy to clients from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Her undergraduate degrees were Arts (Japanese studies) and Law from the University of New South Wales, Australia. She attained her Japanese Proficiency Test Level 1 in Japan in 2005 and started pursuing her dream as a psychotherapist thereafter in Australia.
In Australia, she provided counselling for the Women's Refuge and Low-Cost Counselling for clients in need. She moved back to Hong Kong in 2008 and continues to provide therapy for adults and children. Her expertise is in helping adults who have depression, anxiety and emotional issues.
Kathleen has also been involved with projects in the school setting. She has been involved in a three-year government-organized programme, "Understanding Adolescent Program" in a primary school. She is a very patient and playful counsellor around children and believes that with enough care and skills given from teachers and parents, children are able to excel and bring out their best potentials.
Now, being a mother of two children, Kathleen frequently writes articles about pregnancy and parenting. She is also working on a book that collates her psychotherapy experiences and hopes to offer a platform that allows people to understand more about themselves and take steps in achieving their dreams. Her book involves creative activities that help parents and individuals to overcome their inner obstacles and train their hearts to greater resistances to life’s challenges.
Kathleen currently offers workshops in teaching new mothers and new fathers on the psychological impacts of the amazing journey of pregnancy. She believes that with sufficient preparation and understanding about pre-natal and post-natal care, the risk of depressions can be reduced.
Kathleen is an existential counsellor who tends to employ a combination of models including the existential model, Cognitive Behavioural model (CBT), solution-focussed therapy and mindfulness therapy in helping clients move towards personal growth.
Message from Kathleen
"Believe that you have the capacity to reach your highest potential as we learn to be kinder to ourselves throughout life. In this process, we might need to unlearn all the false belief systems and limiting boundaries we subconsciously impose on ourselves. Counselling might be the start of this adventurous journey."
“True happiness is a verb."
